About The Scots of Austin Founded in 1961, The Scots of Austin is a group dedicated to the education
and preservation of Scottish culture and heritage in and around the Austin
area. Members come from all walks of life and are not necessarily of Scottish
descent.
Our year begins with a dinner in January honoring Scotland's most celebrated poet, Robert Burns. This traditional affair, which is normally held on the Saturday nearest Burns' birthday, features haggis, bagpipes and drums, and odes to the haggis and to Burns. All who have Scottish regalia from any period are encouraged to wear it. During the remainder of the year, we have various events, scheduled during each quarter of the year, except in the summer. All of our events are designed to accomodate the entire family. Children are welcome at all events as preservation of our heritage must include the next generation. Members receive our newsletter via mail, The Thistle Epistle. While the latest version of the monthly newsletter is available from this website in PDF color format, please kindly support the Scots of Austin and become a member so that we can continue to remain Austin's oldest active Scottish Heritage membership. Please browse our web site for further information about our activities. If you are interested in joining the Scots of Austin, please join us at one of our monthly meetings, special events, activities. Please contact us. | |
